This is a lecture about PLAY. It explains why all mammals play, and how play has to do with the need to reconcile our emotional needs with those of others. The talk will also explain how the brain mechanism of play are implicated in relation to emotional connectedness in the family, at school, in romantic relationships, in politics and more.
Learning outcomes:
- Participants will be able to describe and recognise characteristic examples of play behaviour in humans and other mammals and particularly in patients in the clinical situation.
- Participants will be able to describe and utilise what is known about the psychobiological function of play in social development, and in particular they will be able to utilise this knowledge to understand deficits in social functioning in patients and use this therapeutically.
